Reproductive biology of Olive Ridley turtles (Lepidochelys olivacea) at La Cuevita beach
During the nesting season we count, measure and tag the female turtles that arrive to lay their eggs at La Cuevita beach. Eggs are also counted and survival sucess is measured at the end of the reproductive season. This tudy has been developed along 17 years and has provided the most consistent and relliable informaiton about the nesting behavior of marine turtles at a beach in Colombia.
Influence of temperature on sex proportion of Olive Ridley turles at La Cuevita in 1998
Luz M. Martinez studied temperature in natural and relocated nests at La Cuevita during the 1998 nesting season. She found out that nests at September Station are favouring more females, while natural nests temperatures seem to produce more males. The most possible cause is the recurrent tide effect over the humidity of the natural nests.
